How can businesses protect their trademarks when expanding into international markets?

In the journey toward global markets, trademarks and intellectual property (IP) are not only legal tools to safeguard business rights but also serve as a “green shield” that affirms the credibility, value, and sustainable competitiveness of Vietnamese products.

The sharing session “Protecting Trademarks and Intellectual Property in Exports – A Foundation for Green and Sustainable Growth”, organized by GEVA, will provide practical insights into the importance of intellectual property in green export strategies — particularly for businesses in the nuts, coffee, and spices sectors aiming for international expansion.

Objectives of the Session

  • Enhance awareness and capacity of businesses — especially in the agricultural, food, handicraft, and eco-consumer goods sectors — on the role of intellectual property (IP) in export preparation.

  • Help enterprises understand the risks of losing IP rights in foreign markets, and learn how to prevent, register, and protect trademarks, designs, patents, and trade secrets when expanding abroad.

  • Integrate IP protection into sustainable green export strategies, where green trademarks, green patents, geographical indications, and sustainability standards serve as strategic assets to enhance market value and consumer trust.

About GEVA

The “Green Export Incubation and Acceleration Program through Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS)” (GEVA) is a project funded by the Government of Switzerland, co-managed by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE), Ministry of Industry and Trade, and implemented by KisStartup JSC from April 2025 to April 2026.

The project aims to strengthen green export capacity for Vietnamese enterprises (through the application of VSS) via a series of training, consulting, incubation–acceleration, and international market linkage activities, helping them meet increasingly stringent global market requirements.
