GEVA is proud that Mr. Bùi Khánh Tùng, MSc, Deputy Director of the Center for Organic Agriculture Development Support (Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association) and an expert accompanying the GEVA project, was recently interviewed by Vietnam Economic Times / VnEconomy.

In the interview, Mr. Bùi Khánh Tùng shared that the mindset of viewing sustainability as a “burden” is understandable, as the greatest concern for most businesses—especially startups or those expanding production—remains access to capital.

However, in today’s increasingly demanding market, where the trend toward sustainability is growing stronger, “meeting only the basic requirements for quality and food safety is no longer enough.”

“In a global context aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, businesses must follow the path of sustainable development if they want to survive and strengthen their market position,”
Mr. Bùi Khánh Tùng emphasized.

He offered a vivid example:

“A packet of coffee today is not judged solely by its flavor, but also by whether it is produced in a way that protects the environment and ensures social welfare for workers.”

For Vietnamese agricultural businesses—particularly those in nuts, coffee, and spices—this serves as a strong reminder that Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) are no longer an option, but rather a “mandatory passport” to enter global value chains.

Together with GEVA, let’s transform the “burden” of sustainability into a global competitive advantage for Vietnamese agriculture!

About GEVA

The “Incubating and Accelerating Green Exports through Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS)” program is funded by the Government of Switzerland, co-managed by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE), Ministry of Industry and Trade, and operated by KisStartup JSC from April 2025 to April 2026.

The project aims to enhance the green export capacity of Vietnamese businesses through the adoption of VSS, via a comprehensive support ecosystem that includes training, consulting, incubation, acceleration, and international market linkage—helping businesses meet the increasingly stringent requirements of global markets.
