For the First Time in Vietnam: A Hybrid Export Incubator Model

For the first time in Vietnam, an export incubator has been established using a hybrid model—both incubating businesses that are not yet ready and accelerating those that have already developed.
A unique feature of this model is its funnel approach, designed to broaden understanding and gradually strengthen business capacity on their journey toward sustainable international market access.

The Funnel Approach: From Awareness to Specialization

1. Training – Raising Business Community Awareness

Workshops, training sessions, and learning materials help businesses and interested individuals understand green exports, Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS), and global market trends.
This is the “mouth of the funnel”, providing a shared foundation of knowledge.

2. Incubation – Building Foundational Capacity

Businesses that are not yet ready are supported to identify appropriate business models, integrate sustainability into their products, and lay the groundwork for their export journey.

3. Acceleration – Deep Dive & Customized Solutions

For businesses with a stronger foundation, the acceleration program offers six months of 1:1 consulting, focusing on business model adjustment, value chain optimization, and effective application of VSS.

4. Market Linkages – Opening Doors to International Markets

After incubation and acceleration, businesses are directly connected with partners and importers in the EU, USA, Canada, Australia, ASEAN, and the Middle East, opening up real collaboration opportunities.

A Hybrid Model: Incubation & Acceleration

Unlike traditional support programs, GEVA adopts a dual-market approach:

  • Incubation is designed for emerging businesses that lack a solid foundation, helping them understand green export requirements, access international standards, and develop new business models.

  • Acceleration targets businesses that are already prepared, offering intensive support to optimize business models, apply VSS, and connect directly with export markets.

Throughout the process, services go beyond short-term support—they are designed, tested, and refined to operate under market-based mechanisms, creating sustainable, long-term solutions for businesses.

Key Activities

  • Online Assessment Tools:
Businesses can self-assess their export readiness, business model innovation, and VSS compliance for free. A comprehensive report helps identify areas for improvement.

  • Capacity Building & Market Linkages:
A series of training sessions, workshops, and networking events connect Vietnamese businesses with importers from the EU, USA, Canada, Australia, ASEAN, and the Middle East.

  • Intensive Incubation & Acceleration Program:
23 businesses in the spices, coffee, and nuts sectors will receive six months of 1:1 consulting (one session per week), focusing on green exports, business model innovation, and VSS implementation.

A Journey with Vietnamese Businesses

GEVA is more than just a technical assistance project.
It represents a mindset shift and a partnership with Vietnamese businesses to strengthen their competitiveness and move toward green, sustainable, and responsible exports.

By pioneering the first export incubator in Vietnam, GEVA creates opportunities for agricultural enterprises—from emerging to established—to step onto the global stage, where value lies not only in products but also in sustainability, transparency, and the ability to adapt to increasingly stringent international standards.

About GEVA

The “Green Export Incubation and Acceleration through Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS)” program is funded by the Swiss Government, co-managed by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and implemented by KisStartup JSC from April 2025 to April 2026.

The project aims to strengthen the green export capacity of Vietnamese businesses by applying VSS through a comprehensive set of activities: training, consulting, incubation–acceleration, and international market connections, helping them meet the increasingly strict requirements of global markets.
